About the School

Waingels is an inclusive secondary school where everyone belongs, thrives and succeeds.

The school's culture is built on the values of Kindness, Respect, Pride and Responsibility, which underpin both academic achievement and personal development. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, behaviour and wellbeing, while showing respect for themselves and others and taking pride in their achievements.

Waingels college pupils chatting togetherWaingels has high expectations for all students and supports them to achieve their full potential through hard work, resilience and a willingness to embrace new opportunities. The school aims to develop confident, responsible and well-rounded young people who are prepared for their next steps, whatever path they choose.

Inclusion is at the heart of school life. Waingels works hard to create a sense of belonging and to remove barriers that may prevent students from succeeding.

Alongside strong pastoral care, the school has invested in a range of wellbeing and support services, including a Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub, therapy dog Winnie and specialist staff who provide additional guidance and support for students.

As a comprehensive school, Waingels offers a broad and balanced curriculum that is adapted and enriched to meet the needs of all learners. Alongside a long tradition of academic success, the school provides a wide range of extra-curricular, careers and personal development opportunities, helping students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for the future.

Why we joined the OLA

The students, staff and governors at Waingels are proud to have played a leading role in the formation of the Orchard Learning Alliance. Having operated as a multi-academy trust since 2015, the school recognised the benefits of working more closely with other local schools to build a stronger and more collaborative organisation.

By bringing schools into the Trust, staff can share best practice, support one another, strengthen school improvement and create more opportunities for professional development. Ultimately, this collaboration helps improve outcomes and opportunities for all pupils across the Trust.

As a founding school of the Orchard Learning Alliance, Waingels remains committed to the shared values and ethos of the Trust and is excited about the opportunities that come from being part of a family of schools working together for the benefit of their communities.
